  • Pramiracetam

Pramiracetam has shown to be effective in the treatment of cognitive disorders of cerebrovascular and traumatic origins. Tests on humans with impaired memory have shown that Pramiracetam is able to enhance memory. Although there are no studies proving that this is the case in healthy young humans, many reported of feeling the effects of improved memory and recollection. An explanation as to why Pramiracetam enhances memory, is that it has shown to increase high-affinity choline uptake.

Scientifically, Choline a precursor molecule for the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, very similar to a vitamin and is an essential nutrient. Choline can be found in some plants and animal organs or milk. Having a balanced diet and thus a sufficient supply of choline together with supplementing racetams like Pramiracetam that maximize the choline uptake, may have a positive effect on memory.

Pramiracetam is a synthesized racetam molecule with structural similarities to the parent molecule Piracetam. It was first synthesized in 1984 for its potential to prevent amnesia originating from electrocution. Compared to other members of the racetam family, Pramiracetam is less researched but has evidence of its benefit in humans.

In studies, Pramiracetam seemed to be effective when taken shortly prior testing which might make it ideal for supplementing during academical examination or work intensive phases where improved memory and cognitive functions come in handy. Human studies support this thought but do not provide sufficient statistical evidence to this day.

Stacking

Since Pramiracetam makes it easier for the brain to take up choline and that choline is scarce in the average human diet, a choline source is a good choice to combine with. Choline Bitartrate is one good supplement to combine Pramiracetam as well as Citicholine (CDP-Choline).

Dosage

The generally recommended dose per day should not exceed 1200mg. Most people choose to split the dose into three per day at 400mg per intake at breakfast, lunch and dinner. Some people take 600mg twice a day in the morning and evening. Since Pramiracetam, like many nootropics, is more efficiently absorbed by the body in moderate amounts, three times a day seems more reasonable. Its half life in the body, at least for the majority of people range between 4-6 hours which confirms the thought of taking three doses of 400mg a day.

Usage

It is absolutely recommended to take Pramiracetam in capsule form since taking it orally in powder form can be hazardous due to its oral toxicity.

Side effects

Pramiracetam is widely well-tolerated by most people. The most common side effects that have been reported only in conjunction with taking higher doses than recommended are headache,  lack of appetite, drowsiness and dizziness.

Appearance

Pramiracetam comes in crystallized fine powder form very similar looking like sugar.
